ANDRÉUS Ignites the Scene with “BAUOW” and the Launch of Red Set Records
Let’s rewind the tape. Electronic music, once the renegade pulse of underground warehouses and sweat-drenched back rooms, has become a global juggernaut. It’s the sound of rebellion, of innovation, of pure, unfiltered energy. From the hypnotic four-on-the-floor of Chicago house to the breakbeat chaos of the UK rave scene, it’s always been about pushing boundaries, about finding that new frequency that rattles your teeth. Then came dubstep—a low-end earthquake that started in the basements of South London and mutated, picking up metallic, aggressive, and downright filthy textures as it swept the globe. Artists like Skrillex took that sound and strapped it to a rocket, blowing the doors off the mainstream. It was a revolution in rhythm. But like all true movements, it never stands still. It evolves. And just when you think you’ve heard it all, the sound shifts again, getting brighter, more complex, and painting with a whole new palette.
Hailing from Olney, Maryland, ANDRÉUS is an artist who clearly did his homework, absorbing the sonic booms of the past and channeling them into something new, vibrant, and dangerous. His latest single, “BAUOW,” is a five-minute-and-six-second declaration of intent. This beast of a tune is the inaugural release for the brand-new Red Set Records, and it’s setting the bar sky-high. “BAUOW” is the sound of the new school, a blistering piece of pure dubstep that splashes the canvas with the vibrant, chaotic beauty of color bass. This is the next chapter, and it’s being written in bright, fluorescent ink.
But you don’t just wake up and decide to make a track this intricate. For ANDRÉUS, the journey started at the ripe old age of seven, smashing plastic drums on Rock Band with his brothers. That digital rhythm sparked a real-world intrigue. “I would play the drums,” ANDRÉUS recalls, “and that kick-started my intrigue.” The real paradigm shift, however, came from his older brother. The discovery? Skrillex. It was a total game-changer, a moment of sonic confusion and awe. “I didn’t know how those sounds could even be made,” he admits. The mystery of those alien growls and shrieking synths lingered for a long time, a puzzle he needed to solve. The key finally appeared during drum lessons, when his instructor, Tarek, introduced him to the secret weapon: Native Instruments Maschine. The machine was unlocked, and the path forward became clear.
“BAUOW” is the stunning culmination of that discovery. This is ANDRÉUS’ first dive into pure dubstep, and he’s cannonballing right into the deep end. “I wanted to make my first pure dubstep track with color bass,” he states, citing heavy hitters like “Turn It Up – Slushii & Affinity VIP” and “Stay” by TYNAN and Ace Aura as major inspirations. And you can hear it. The track is a gut-punch of precision, a sonic thrill ride that balances face-melting power with moments of stunning, otherworldly melody.
The shimmering, prismatic synths crash against precision-tooled drums, creating a sound that is both brutal and beautiful. It’s the sound of a supercomputer having a beautiful nightmare. ANDRÉUS aimed for something with a bit of intensity, but also surreal, and he absolutely nailed it. Over its runtime, “BAUOW” shifts and transforms, pulling you into a neon-drenched cityscape in a cyberpunk future—intense, fast, and dazzlingly complex.
ANDRÉUS is an artist taking the reins, building a house for his own sound and for the fresh talent he aims to champion. It’s a sign that the Olney, Maryland scene has a new contender, who’s ready to push innovative projects. ANDRÉUS is leading the charge as Red Set Records’ inaugural artist, and it feels like a new center of gravity for East Coast bass music.
“BAUOW” is a track that respects the history of the genre—that percussive energy—while simultaneously kicking the door down to its future. It’s intense, and it’s one hell of a ride. Red Set Records has fired its first shot, and it’s a direct hit. The new wave is here, and it sounds like “BAUOW.”
